The Information & Computing center was established in March, 1997. The center aims to support all computerized academic administration, the education of students and research activities of professors and sharing information to the society.
Currently the Information & Computing center has a director, and consists of Educational support dept., Informational operative dept. and Administrative dept. as it's subordinary groups. Facilities are Computer Educating Center (1504㎡, on second floor) and the main building (3514㎡, on fourth floor).
The systems of our center are Super Computer, IBM RS-6000SP for academic works, HP rx-5670 and EMC2 Storage for the general administration of school affairs database system, Intel SRSH4 (4u) and Netcom Storage for Web disk, Web-mail server, on-line electric signature sever and on-line software supporting server.
Since Nov. 2001 we have completed the foundation of the superhigh speed internet to cover the increased number of users at campus and the improvement of network, Internet lines are linking with KREN and BoraNet Internet Service Provider about 100 Mbps speed each to maintain dual. Also we have installed 322 number of AP to use KT netspot wireless internet. Approximately 10,000 number of nodes are connected to activate various computerized practice and the academic research of professors.
The redevelopment of general administration of school affairs service (CTIS:Chonbuk national Total Information System) has been gradually carried out since 1997 and finished in 1998. Furthermore, for the convenience' sake of users, we redeveloped existing C/S(client and server) operation to Web service.
To support the members of the University with personal computers and network, we also opened Repair center on the first floor of the Information & Computing center. A/S center gives rise to real-time consultation and dispatched official services.
In addition, we have three computer labs (PC 48 each) and three computer lecture rooms (PC 48 each) at Computer Educating Center and a PC lab (PC 41) at the main building for educating information to students.
The Center is responsible for promoting the use of computing throughout the University, The Center assumes various function and carries out a broadly based and expanded program of activities in education, consultation, research and policy analysis and information services. All student, faculty and staffs can obtain Internet accounts, and come into contact with computers anytime during the school day. All student are encouraged to make the best use of the facilities and equipment in the Center.
